John Quincy Adams (1767–1848), son of John Adams, was the sixth President (1825–1829). Before his presidency, he was a diplomat and Secretary of State who formulated the Monroe Doctrine. As President, he supported national infrastructure projects and scientific advancement, though his ambitious agenda met political resistance in an era of growing partisanship.

Interesting anecdote: Adams was known for his habit of early morning swims in the Potomac River – often in the nude. According to legend, journalist Anne Royall secured an interview by sitting on his clothes until he agreed to her questions, making him one of the first presidents interviewed by a woman.
